UPC Scenarios Course: Case Studies on the New Unified Patent Court - Munich, 20 October 2017

23 August 2017

This Autumn, the Forum Institut is holding a practical seminar entitled "UPC Scenarios: Case Studies on the New Unified Patent Court" in Munich, Germany.

The full details of the course, fees, speakers and a detailed programme can be found here.

The Unified Patent Court may soon open its doors. What is still missing is a clear understanding of how the proceedings before the UPC will really develop in practice. Some of the uncertainty arises due to a clash of Continental civil law approaches and UK common law cultures. While invalidity defences, equity and automatic disclosure of documents will be second nature to English lawyers and judges of the UPC, their German counterparts will be more used to a bifurcated system, automatic injunctions and limited documentary disclosure.  Therefore, it will be important to understand, from both perspectives, what will matter in revocation and infringement proceedings before the Unified Patent Court.

Dr. Steffen Steininger, partner of Hogan Lovells International LLP, Munich will take attendees through various UPC proceeding case studies, assuming the role of claimant on the one hand and defendant on the other.  The practicalities and nuances of proceedings before the UPC will be explained through a number of different case studies.
